Poker is not about luck

Poker is not about luck

We often shout out the importance of luck factor in our daily lives. However, this cannot be proved in case of games. For instance, if a coin comes up heads ten times in a row, most people will say that there are greater chances for it to be heads at the next toss. Nevertheless, this is only a superstition and does not hold any logic. Similarly, on a poker table, if nines are coming out on most flops, it does not become unlucky after all.

Whether it be online poker or the game at a table, whatever we call ‘luck’ is nothing but nature fluctuation. When a good player, even while playing online poker, keeps up with his normal style of winning, we do not call him lucky. Professionals do not panic if they have terrible losing sessions. Instead they spend some time relaxing. Depending too much on the luck factor can be harmful eventually. When you are obsessed with luck, you can rarely concentrate on the game. You fail to notice your strengths and weaknesses and always bring up the question of luck. One has to honest in working upon one’s mistakes. If you continue to repeat mistakes and blame your luck for it, you can never rise to the higher level of the game.

If you believe that destiny is over-powering, you must learn how to control it. Do not let the Greek concept of luck controlling our lives rule you in this modern age. If you do so, you will end up fooling yourself. While mastering the rules you will also have to brush up your skills with poker statistics, odds and percentages. When you have learned these, you will know that you are to speak of statistical analysis, game theory and computer modeling (in case of online poker) about justifying the final results.
